Dosage of Anfetamina in details

infoThe dose of a drug and dosage of the drug are two different terminologies. Dose is defined as the quantity or amount of medicine given by the doctor or taken by the patient at a given period. Dosage is the regimen prescribed by the doctor about how many days and how many times per day the drug is to be taken in specified dose by the patient. The dose is expressed in mg for tablets or gm, micro gm sometimes, ml for syrups or drops for kids syrups. The dose is not fixed for a drug for all conditions, and it changes according to the condition or a disease. It also changes on the age of the patient.

Pre-treatment Screening

Prior to treating patients with Anfetamina, assess for the presence of cardiac disease (i.e., perform a careful history, family history of sudden death or ventricular arrhythmia, and physical exam).

Assess the risk of abuse prior to prescribing and monitor for signs of abuse and dependence while on therapy. Maintain careful prescription records, educate patients about abuse, monitor for signs of abuse and overdose, and periodically re-evaluate the need for Anfetamina use.

Dosing Information

Administer Anfetamina orally in the morning with or without food or liquid.

The recommended starting dose of Anfetamina for patients 6 to 17 years of age is 5 mg once or twice daily. If necessary, administer an additional dose after 4 to 6 hours. Titrate the dosage in increments of 5 mg at weekly intervals until optimal response is obtained. Only in rare cases will it be necessary to exceed a total of 40 mg daily.

Where possible, drug administration should be interrupted occasionally to determine if there is a recurrence of behavioral symptoms sufficient to require continued therapy.

Anfetamina should be administered at the lowest effective dosage and dosage should be individually adjusted.

Administration Instructions

Instruct the patient or caregiver on the following administration instructions:

  • Do not remove the tablet from the blister pack until just prior to dosing. Do not store the tablet for future use.
  • Use dry hands to open the blister.
  • Remove the tablet by pushing it through the back of the foil-lined blister pack.
  • As soon as the blister is opened, remove the tablet and place the tablet on the patient's tongue.
  • Place the whole tablet on the tongue and allow it to disintegrate without chewing or crushing.
  • The tablet will disintegrate in saliva so that it can be swallowed. No liquid is needed to take the tablet. The tablet can be actively moved around between the tongue and the roof of the mouth until it disintegrates.

Switching from Other Anfetamina Products

Switching from EVEKEO to Anfetamina can be done on a milligram-per-milligram basis.

When switching from other Anfetamina products, discontinue treatment and titrate with Anfetamina using the titration schedule above. Do not substitute for other Anfetamina products on a milligram-per-milligram basis because of different Anfetamina salt compositions and differing pharmacokinetic profiles.

Dosage Modifications due to Drug Interactions

Agents that alter urinary pH can impact urinary excretion and alter blood levels of Anfetamina. Acidifying agents (e.g., ascorbic acid) decrease blood levels, while alkalinizing agents (e.g., sodium bicarbonate) increase blood levels. Adjust Anfetamina dosage accordingly.

What other drugs will affect Anfetamina?

Do not take Anfetamina if you have taken a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) such as isocarboxazid (Marplan), tranylcypromine (Parnate), or phenelzine (Nardil) in the last 14 days.

Before taking Anfetamina, tell your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:

  • insulin or another medicine to treat diabetes;

  • guanethidine (Ismelin) or reserpine (Diutensin-R);

  • doxazosin (Cardura), terazosin (Hytrin), prazosin (Minipress), or guanadrel(Hylorel);

  • a tricyclic antidepressant such as amitriptyline (Elavil), amoxapine (Asendin), doxepin (Sinequan), nortriptyline (Pamelor), imipramine (Tofranil), clomipramine (Anafranil), protriptyline (Vivactil), or desipramine (Norpramin)

  • a phenothiazine such as chlorpromazine (Thorazine);

  • lithium (Lithobid, Lithonate, Eskalith, others); or

  • haloperidol (Haldol).

You may not be able to take Anfetamina, or you may require a dosage adjustment or special monitoring during treatment if you are taking any of the medicines listed above.

Drugs other than those listed here may also interact with Anfetamina. Talk to your doctor and pharmacist before taking any prescription or over-the-counter medicines, including herbal products.

Anfetamina interactions

infoInteractions are the effects that happen when the drug is taken along with the food or when taken with other medications. Suppose if you are taking a drug Anfetamina, it may have interactions with specific foods and specific medications. It will not interact with all foods and medications. The interactions vary from drug to drug. You need to be aware of interactions of the medicine you take. Most medications may interact with alcohol, tobacco, so be cautious.

Acidifying agents: Gastrointestinal acidifying agents (guanethidine, reserpine, glutamic acid HCl, ascorbic acid, fruit juices, etc.) lower absorption of amphetamines. Urinary acidifying agents (ammonium chloride, sodium acid phosphate, etc.) increase the concentration of the ionized species of the Anfetamina molecule, thereby increasing urinary excretion. Both groups of agents lower blood levels and efficacy of amphetamines.

Adrenergic blockers: Adrenergic blockers are inhibited by amphetamines.

Alkalinizing agents: Gastrointestinal alkalinizing agents (sodium bicarbonate, etc.) increase absorption of amphetamines. Urinary alkalinizing agents (acetazolamide, some thiazides) increase the concentration of the non-ionized species of the Anfetamina molecule, thereby decreasing urinary excretion. Both groups of agents increase blood levels and therefore potentiate the actions of amphetamines.

Antidepressants, tricyclic: Amphetamines may enhance the activity of tricyclic or sympathomimetic agents; d-Anfetamina with desipramine or protriptyline and possibly other tricyclics cause striking and sustained increases in the concentration of d-Anfetamina in the brain; cardiovascular effects can be potentiated.

MAO inhibitors: MAOI antidepressants, as well as a metabolite of furazolidone, slow Anfetamina metabolism. This slowing potentiates amphetamines, increasing their effect on the release of norepinephrine and other monoamines from adrenergic nerve endings; this can cause headaches and other signs of hypertensive crisis. A variety of neurological toxic effects and malignant hyperpyrexia can occur, sometimes with fatal results.

Antihistamines: Amphetamines may counteract the sedative effect of antihistamines.

Antihypertensives: Amphetamines may antagonize the hypotensive effects of antihypertensives.

Chlorpromazine: Chlorpromazine blocks dopamine and norepinephrine reuptake, thus inhibiting the central stimulant effects of amphetamines, and can be used to treat Anfetamina poisoning.

Ethosuximide: Amphetamines may delay intestinal absorption of ethosuximide.

Haloperidol: Haloperidol blocks dopamine and norepinephrine reuptake, thus inhibiting the central stimulant effects of amphetamines.

Lithium carbonate: The stimulatory effects of amphetamines may be inhibited by lithium carbonate.

Meperidine: Amphetamines potentiate the analgesic effect of meperidine.

Methenamine therapy: Urinary excretion of amphetamines is increased, and efficacy is reduced, by acidifying agents used in methenamine therapy.

Norepinephrine: Amphetamines enhance the adrenergic effect of norepinephrine.

Phenobarbital: Amphetamines may delay intestinal absorption of phenobarbital; co-administration of phenobarbital may produce a synergistic anticonvulsant action.

Phenytoin: Amphetamines may delay intestinal absorption of phenytoin; co-administration of phenytoin may produce a synergistic anticonvulsant action.

Propoxyphene: In cases of propoxyphene overdosage, Anfetamina CNS stimulation is potentiated and fatal convulsions can occur.

Veratrum alkaloids: Amphetamines inhibit the hypotensive effect of veratrum alkaloids.

Drug/Laboratory Test Interactions: Amphetamines can cause a significant elevation in plasma corticosteroid levels. This increase is greatest in the evening.

Amphetamines may interfere with urinary steroid determinations.
