Antacidin Uses |
||
Antacidin is a combination therapy for the relief of heartburn and acid indigestion.
Each sachet contains aluminum hydroxide gel (13%) 1538.5 mg and Magnesium Hydroxide (Antacidin) 400 mg.
It also contains the following excipients: Simethicone 30% suspension, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose 2208, carrageenan, microcrystalline cellulose, carboxymethylcellulose sodium, D-sorbitol 70% solution, stevioside, silicone resin 30%, natural orange flavor, chlorhexidine acetate 3 mg (as preservative) and purified water.
Aluminum hydroxide is chemically Al2O3.
Generally, 1 or 2 sachets (10 mL) 3 times daily, between meals or bedtime, or as directed by a physician.
Do not take Antacidin concomitantly with other drugs within 2 hrs because this will change the effect of the drugs.
Interaction between antacid and other drugs will increase gastric pH. Do not take Antacidin with tetracycline during 3-4 hrs after administration.
Do not take Antacidin concomitantly with fluoroquinolone because this decreases its absorption. Concurrent use with norfloxacin or ciprofloxacin will have signs of urinary gravel and toxicity.
It is better to take Antacidin 3 hrs after using ketoconazole.
Do not take Antacidin concomitantly with mecamylamine, methenamine, sodium polystyren sulfonate resin.
This medication can cause nausea, constipation, diarrhea, or headache. If these symptoms persist or become severe, notify your doctor.
If your doctor has directed you to use this medication, remember that he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.
The magnesium in this product can cause diarrhea. Using an antacid that contains only aluminum along with this product can help control diarrhea. The aluminum in this product can cause constipation. To minimize constipation, drink plenty of fluids and exercise. Diarrhea is more common with this product than constipation.
Aluminum-containing antacids bind to phosphate, an important body chemical, in the gut. This can cause low phosphate levels, especially if you use this medication in large doses and for a long time. Tell your doctor immediately if you have any of the following symptoms of low phosphate: loss of appetite, unusual tiredness, muscle weakness.
Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: dizziness, fainting.
Seek immediate medical attention if any of these rare but very serious side effects or symptoms of a serious medical problem occur: black/tarry stools, slow/shallow breathing, slow/irregular heartbeat, mental/mood changes (e.g., confusion), deep sleep, pain with urination, stomach/abdominal pain, vomit that looks like coffee grounds.
A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, seek immediate medical attention if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing.
Antacidin should not be used in patients who are severely suffering from renal insufficiency, or if there is severe abdominal pain and/or the possibility of bowel obstruction.
Antacidin chewable tablets contain phenylalanine and should not be given to phenylketonurics patients.
