Actions of Arlette 28 in details

Arlette 28 is used to prevent pregnancy. Arlette 28 contains a small amount of one type of female sex hormone, the progestogen-Arlette 28. For this reason, Arlette 28 is called a progestogen-only pill (POP) or a mini-pill. Contrary to combined pills, the POP or mini-pill do not contain an estrogen hormone next to the progestogen.

Most POPs or mini-pills work primarily by preventing the sperm cells from entering the womb but, do not always prevent an egg cell from ripening which is the primary action of combined pills. Arlette 28 is distinct from other mini-pills in having a dose that in most cases is high enough to prevent the egg cells from ripening. As a result, Arlette 28 provides high contraceptive efficacy.

In contrast to the combined pill, Arlette 28 can be used by women who do not tolerate estrogens and by women who are breastfeeding. A disadvantage is that vaginal bleeding may occur at irregular intervals during the use of Arlette 28.

The woman may not have any bleeding at all.

Arlette 28 is used as a female contraceptive. Arlette 28 is a progestin or a synthetic form of the naturally occurring female sex hormone, progesterone. In a woman's normal menstrual cycle, an egg matures and is released from the ovaries (ovulation). The ovary then produces progesterone, preventing the release of further eggs and priming the lining of the womb for a possible pregnancy. If pregnancy occurs, progesterone levels in the body remain high, maintaining the womb lining. If pregnancy does not occur, progesterone levels in the body fall, resulting in a menstrual period. Arlette 28 tricks the body processes into thinking that ovulation has already occurred, by maintaining high levels of the synthetic progesterone. This prevents the release of eggs from the ovaries.
