What is Dexclor?

Dexclor (Dexclor) is an antihistamine. It blocks the effects of the naturally occurring chemical histamine in your body.

Dexclor is used to treat sneezing; runny nose; itching, watery eyes; hives; rashes; itching; and other symptoms of allergies and the common cold.

Dexclor may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.

Dexclor indications

An indication is a term used for the list of condition or symptom or illness for which the medicine is prescribed or used by the patient. For example, acetaminophen or paracetamol is used for fever by the patient, or the doctor prescribes it for a headache or body pains. Dexclor is used to relieve symptoms of sinus congestion, running nose, watery eyes, itching of the nose and throat, and sneezing due to upper respiratory infections (eg. colds), allergies due to food and insect bites and hay fever.

Dexclor description

A histamine H1 antagonist used in allergic reactions, hay fever, rhinitis, urticaria, and asthma. It has also been used in veterinary applications. One of the most widely used of the classical antihistaminics, it generally causes less drowsiness and sedation than promethazine.

Generic name: Dexclor 2mg in 5mL

Dosage form: oral solution

DOSAGE SHOULD BE INDIVIDUALIZED ACCORDING TO THE NEEDS AND THE RESPONSE OF THE PATIENT.

Recommended Dosage

Adults and Children 12 years of age and older: 2 mg (1 teaspoonful)

Children 6 to 11 years: 1 mg (1/2 teaspoonful)

Children 2 to 5 years: 0.5 mg (1/4 teaspoonful)

Doses are generally given every 4 to 6 hours.

MAOI may prolong & enhance antihistamine effects which can lead to severe hypotension. W/ alcohol, TCAs, barbiturate or other antidepressants may enhance sedative effect of Dexclor.

Check with your doctor if any of these most COMMON side effects persist or become bothersome:

Constipation; diarrhea; dizziness; drowsiness; dry mouth, nose, or throat; excitability; headache; loss of appetite; nausea; nervousness or anxiety; trouble sleeping; upset stomach; vomiting; weakness.

Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur while taking Dexclor (the active ingredient contained in Dexclor)

Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); difficulty urinating or inability to urinate; fast or irregular heartbeat; hallucinations; seizures; severe dizziness, lightheadedness, or headache; tremor; trouble sleeping; vision changes.

Use in Newborn or Premature Infants:

This drug should not be used in newborn or premature infants.

Use in Nursing Mothers:

Because of the higher risk of antihistamines for infants generally and for newborns and prematures in particular, antihistamine therapy is contraindicated in nursing mothers.

Use in Lower Respiratory Disease:

Antihistamines should NOT be used to treat lower respiratory tract symptoms including asthma.

Antihistamines are also contraindicated in the following conditions:

Hypersensitivity to Dexclor or other antihistamines of similar chemical structure

Monoamine oxidase inhibitor therapy
