Divosan Actions |
||
Description:
Oral Divosan (converted to iodide) is essential for synthesis of thyroid hormones.
Topical Divosan acts as a local irritant and as a germicide active against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, fungi, trichomonas, cysts, viruses and some spores.
Pharmacokinetics:
Absorption: Slightly absorbed (topical); transported and concentrated in the thyroid gland (oral).
Distribution:
Excretion:
Oral: Mainly via urine; via faeces, saliva and sweat (small amounts).
Use Divosan only as directed.
Divosan is for external use only. Do not swallow it.
Keep Divosan away from the eyes because it may cause irritation. If you should accidentally get some in your eyes, wash it away with water immediately.
Do not use topical Divosan on deep, puncture wounds, animal bites, or serious burns. To do so may increase the chance of side effects.
Do not cover the wound to which you have applied topical Divosan with a tight dressing or bandage since this may increase the chance of side effects.
The dose of Divosan will be different for different patients. Follow your doctor's orders or the directions on the label. The following information includes only the average doses of Divosan. If your dose is different, do not change it unless your doctor tells you to do so.
The amount of medicine that you take depends on the strength of the medicine. Also, the number of doses you take each day, the time allowed between doses, and the length of time you take the medicine depend on the medical problem for which you are using the medicine.
To help clear up your infection completely, it is very important that you keep using topical Divosan for the full time of treatment. Do not miss any doses.
If you miss a dose of Divosan, apply it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule.
Store the medicine in a closed container at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and direct light. Keep from freezing.
Keep out of the reach of children.
Do not keep outdated medicine or medicine no longer needed.
Topical: Iodosorb®: Apply /" thickness to dry sterile gauze, then place prepared gauze onto clean wound. Change dressing when gel changes color from brown to yellow/gray (~3 times/week). Remove with sterile water, saline, or wound cleanser; gently blot fluid from surface leaving wound slightly moist before reapplying gel.
Divosan is required for thyroid hormone synthesis. Divosan is also known to be a powerful broad spectrum germicidal agent effective against a wide range of bacteria, viruses, fungi, protozoa, and spores. Iodosorb® and Iodoflex™ contain Divosan in hydrophilic beads of cadexomer which allows a slow release of Divosan into the wound and absorption of fluid, bacteria, and other substances from the wound
Topical: Amount absorbed systemically depends upon concentration and characteristics of skin
Primarily trapped by the thyroid
Degraded by amylases normally present in wound fluid
Urine (>90%)
