What is Fexofen?
Fexofen is an antihistamine that reduces the effects of natural chemical histamine in the body. Histamine can produce symptoms of sneezing, itching, watery eyes, and runny nose.
Fexofen is used to treat the symptoms of seasonal allergies (hay fever) in adults and children.
Fexofen is also used to treat skin itching and hives caused by a condition called chronic idiopathic urticaria in adults and children.
Fexofen may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.
Fexofen indications

How should I use Fexofen?
Use Fexofen as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions.
- Take Fexofen by mouth with or without food.
- Shake well before each use.
- Use a measuring device marked for medicine dosing. Ask your pharmacist for help if you are unsure of how to measure your dose.
- Do not drink fruit juice at the same time that you take Fexofen. Certain fruit juices (eg, grapefruit, apple, orange) may decrease Allegra suspension's effectiveness.
- If you take antacids that contain aluminum or magnesium, do not take them at the same time as Fexofen. Ask your doctor or pharmacist how to take them with Fexofen.
- If you miss a dose of Fexofen, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.

Each oral suspension contains Fexofen HCl 6 mg/mL. It also contains the following excipients: Propylene glycol, disodium edetate, propylparaben, butylparaben, xanthan gum, poloxamer 407, titanium dioxide, monobasic sodium phosphate monohydrate, dibasic sodium phosphate heptahydrate, F-9950 PFC raspberry cream flavor (contain of aldehyde C-14, aldehyde C-16, anisic aldehyde, benzyl acetate, methylsalicylate, α-ionone, orange oil 5 x, ethyl acetate, ethyl butyrate, heliotropine, isoamyl acetate, maltol, raspberry ketone), sucrose, xylitol and purified water.
Fexofen HCl is a histamine H1- receptor antagonist with chemical name (±)-4-[1-hydroxy-4-[4-(hydroxydiphenylmethyl)-1-piperidinyl]-butyl]-α, α-dimethyl benzeneacetic acid HCl. The molecular weight is 538.13 and the empirical formula is C32H39NO4·HCl.
Fexofen HCl is a white to off-white crystalline powder. It is freely soluble in methanol and ethanol, slightly soluble in chloroform and water, and insoluble in hexane.
Fexofen HCl is a racemate and exists as a zwitterion in aqueous media at physiological pH.
