Actions of Chlorpheniramine (Iyafin Junior) in details

infoThe action of the drug on the human body is called Pharmacodynamics in Medical terminology. To produce its effect and to change the pathological process that is happening the body and to reduce the symptom or cure the disease, the medicine has to function in a specific way. The changes it does to the body at cellular level gives the desired result of treating a disease. Drugs act by stimulating or inhibiting a receptor or an enzyme or a protein most of the times. Medications are produced in such a way that the ingredients target the specific site and bring about chemical changes in the body that can stop or reverse the chemical reaction which is causing the disease.

Chlorpheniramine (Iyafin Junior) belongs to class of medications called antihistamines. It acts by blocking a natural chemical (histamine) that your body makes during an allergic reaction. Histamine is responsible for many symptoms of allergy.

How should I take Chlorpheniramine (Iyafin Junior)?

infoAdministration of drug is important to know because the drug absorption and action varies depending on the route and time of administration of the drug. A medicine is prescribed before meals or after meals or along with meals. The specific timing of the drug intake about food is to increase its absorption and thus its efficacy. Few work well when taken in empty stomach and few medications need to be taken 1 or 2 hrs after the meal. A drug can be in the form of a tablet, a capsule which is the oral route of administration and the same can be in IV form which is used in specific cases. Other forms of drug administration can be a suppository in anal route or an inhalation route.

Use exactly as directed on the label, or as prescribed by your doctor. Do not use in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended. This medicine is usually taken only for a short time until your symptoms clear up.

Do not take for longer than 7 days in a row. Talk with your doctor if your symptoms do not improve after 7 days of treatment, or if you have a fever with a headache or skin rash.

Do not crush, chew, or break an extended-release tablet. Swallow it whole. Breaking the pill may cause too much of the drug to be released at one time.

Measure liquid medicine with a special dose-measuring spoon or medicine cup, not with a regular table spoon. If you do not have a dose-measuring device, ask your pharmacist for one.

Always ask a doctor before giving a cough or cold medicine to a child. Death can occur from the misuse of cough and cold medicines in very young children.

If you need surgery or medical tests, tell the surgeon or doctor ahead of time if you have taken this medicine within the past few days.

Store at room temperature away from moisture and heat. Do not allow the liquid form of this medicine to freeze.

infoPharmacokinetics of a drug can be defined as what body does to the drug after it is taken. The therapeutic result of the medicine depends upon the Pharmacokinetics of the drug. It deals with the time taken for the drug to be absorbed, metabolized, the process and chemical reactions involved in metabolism and about the excretion of the drug. All these factors are essential to deciding on the efficacy of the drug. Based on these pharmacokinetic principles, the ingredients, the Pharmaceutical company decides dose and route of administration. The concentration of the drug at the site of action which is proportional to therapeutic result inside the body depends on various pharmacokinetic reactions that occur in the body.

Dextromethorphan (Iyafin Junior) Lafayette Pharmaceutical Laboratory is an antitussive medication. Inhibiting the excitability of the cough center this medicine suppresses the cough of any origin. Dextromethorphan (Iyafin Junior) has not addiction effects and it has no analgesic and hypnotic action. Dextromethorphan (Iyafin Junior) Lafayette Pharmaceutical Laboratory starts to act after 10-30 minutes after oral administration, the duration of therapeutic action: 5-6 hours for adults and 6-9 hours for children. Dextromethorphan (Iyafin Junior) is an optical isomer of levomethorphan which is similar to morphine. Due to optical isomerism this drug has no opioid effects. Dextromethorphan (Iyafin Junior) used mainly for replacement of codeine as a cough suppressant. In addition to the cough suppressant this medication is used in medicine for diagnostic purposes and may be useful in various cases - from seizures to heroin addiction treatment, some chronic neurodegenerative diseases. These include amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) (Charcot's disease), disease of "mad cow and other prion diseases. Dextromethorphan (Iyafin Junior) has also been used for the treatment of mental retardation, Parkinson's disease, in the treatment of lung and other cancers and to prevent tissue rejection in transplantation because of the (poorly known) effects of sigma ligands on tumor cells and immune system.

How should I take Dextromethorphan (Iyafin Junior)?

Make certain your health care professional knows if you are on a low-sodium, low-sugar, or any other special diet. Most medicines contain more than their active ingredient, and many liquid medicines contain alcohol.

Use Dextromethorphan (Iyafin Junior) only as directed by your doctor or the directions on the label. Do not use more of it, do not use it more often, and do not use it for a longer time than your doctor or the label says. Although this effect has happened only rarely, Dextromethorphan (Iyafin Junior) has become habit-forming (causing mental or physical dependence) in some persons who used too much for a long time.

Dextromethorphan (Iyafin Junior) is an opioid-like drug that binds to and acts as antagonist to the NMDA glutamatergic receptor, it is an agonist to the opioid sigma 1 and sigma 2 receptors, it is also an alpha3/beta4 nicotinic receptor antagonist and targets the serotonin reuptake pump. Dextromethorphan (Iyafin Junior) is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, where it enters the bloodstream and crosses the blood-brain barrier. The first-pass through the hepatic portal vein results in some of the drug being metabolized into an active metabolite of Dextromethorphan (Iyafin Junior), dextrorphan, the 3-hydroxy derivative of Dextromethorphan (Iyafin Junior).

Guaifenesin (Iyafin Junior) may act as an irritant to gastric vagal receptors, and recruit efferent parasympathetic reflexes that cause glandular exocytosis of a less viscous mucus mixture. Cough may be provoked. This combination may flush tenacious, congealed mucopurulent material from obstructed small airways and lead to a temporary improvement in dyspnea or the work of breathing.

How should I take Guaifenesin (Iyafin Junior)?

Drinking plenty of water while taking Guaifenesin (Iyafin Junior) may help loosen mucus or phlegm in the lungs.

For patients taking the extended-release capsule form of Guaifenesin (Iyafin Junior):

  • Swallow the capsule whole, or open the capsule and sprinkle the contents on soft food such as applesauce, jelly, or pudding and swallow without crushing or chewing.

For patients taking the extended-release tablet form of Guaifenesin (Iyafin Junior):

  • If the tablet has a groove in it, you may carefully break it into two pieces along the groove. Then swallow the pieces whole, without crushing or chewing them.
  • If the tablet does not have a groove, it must be swallowed whole. Do not break, crush, or chew it before swallowing.

Guaifenesin (Iyafin Junior) is an expectorant which increases the output of phlegm (sputum) and bronchial secretions by reducing adhesiveness and surface tension. The increased flow of less viscous secretions promotes ciliary action and changes a dry, unproductive cough to one that is more productive and less frequent. By reducing the viscosity and adhesiveness of secretions, Guaifenesin (Iyafin Junior) increases the efficacy of the mucociliary mechanism in removing accumulated secretions from the upper and lower airway.

Pseudoephedrine (Iyafin Junior) acts directly on both alpha- and, to a lesser degree, beta-adrenergic receptors. Through direct action on alpha-adrenergic receptors in the mucosa of the respiratory tract, Pseudoephedrine (Iyafin Junior) produces vasoconstriction. Pseudoephedrine (Iyafin Junior) relaxes bronchial smooth muscle by stimulating beta2-adrenergic receptors. Like ephedrine, Pseudoephedrine (Iyafin Junior) releasing norepinephrine from its storage sites, an indirect effect. This is its main and direct mechanism of action. The displaced noradrenaline is released into the neuronal synapse where it is free to activate the postsynaptic adrenergic receptors.

How should I take Pseudoephedrine (Iyafin Junior)?

For patients taking Pseudoephedrine (Iyafin Junior) extended-release capsules:

  • Swallow the capsule whole. However, if the capsule is too large to swallow, you may mix the contents of the capsule with jam or jelly and swallow without chewing.
  • Do not crush or chew before swallowing.

For patients taking Pseudoephedrine (Iyafin Junior) extended-release tablets:

  • Swallow the tablet whole.
  • Do not break, crush, or chew before swallowing.

To help prevent trouble in sleeping, take the last dose of Pseudoephedrine (Iyafin Junior) for each day a few hours before bedtime. If you have any questions about this, check with your doctor.

Take Pseudoephedrine (Iyafin Junior) only as directed. Do not take more of it, do not take it more often, and do not take it for a longer period of time than recommended on the label (usually 7 days), unless otherwise directed by your doctor. To do so may increase the chance of side effects.

Pseudoephedrine (Iyafin Junior) is a sympathomimetic agent, structurally similar to ephedrine, used to relieve nasal and sinus congestion and reduce air-travel-related otalgia in adults. The salts Pseudoephedrine (Iyafin Junior) hydrochloride and Pseudoephedrine (Iyafin Junior) sulfate are found in many over-the-counter preparations either as single-ingredient preparations, or more commonly in combination with antihistamines and/or paracetamol/ibuprofen. Unlike antihistamines, which modify the systemic histamine-mediated allergic response, Pseudoephedrine (Iyafin Junior) only serves to relieve nasal congestion commonly associated with colds or allergies. The advantage of oral Pseudoephedrine (Iyafin Junior) over topical nasal preparations, such as oxymetazoline, is that it does not cause rebound congestion (rhinitis medicamentosa).
