Pregnancy of Lyrolin in details
Lyrolin crosses the placenta (Ohman 2011). Studies which evaluated neonatal outcomes following Lyrolin exposure during pregnancy are limited (Mostacci 2017; Patorno 2017; Veiby 2014; Winterfeld 2016). Lyrolin has been evaluated as an adjuvant pain medication following cesarean section and pregnancy termination (El Kenany 2016; Lavand'homme 2010).
Data collection to monitor pregnancy and infant outcomes following exposure to Lyrolin is ongoing. Patients exposed to Lyrolin during pregnancy are encouraged to enroll themselves into the North American Antiepileptic Drug (NAAED) Pregnancy Registry by calling 1-888-233-2334. Additional information is available at www.aedpregnancyregistry.org.
Lyrolin breastfeeding
Very limited data indicate that amounts of this drug in breastmilk are low. If therapy is required by the mother of an older infant, it is not a reason to discontinue breastfeeding, but until more data become available, an alternate drug may be preferred, especially while nursing a newborn or preterm infant.
A decision should be made to discontinue breastfeeding or discontinue the drug, taking into account the importance of the drug to the mother. Excreted into human milk: Yes Comment: -The effect on the nursing infant is unknown.
