Metildigoxin indications
Oral
Cardiac arrhythmias; Heart failure
Adult: 100-600 mcg daily, depending upon desired digitalisation (usually performed over 2-4 days); larger doses are given in divided doses.
Elderly: Dose reduction may be required.
Renal impairment: Dialysis: Initially, 30-50% of the usual dose.

Intravenous

Metildigoxin interactions
Effectiveness reduced by phenytoin, neomycin, sulphasalazine, kaolin, pectin, antacids and in patients receiving radiotherapy. Metoclopramide may alter the absorption of solid dosage forms of digoxin. Blood levels increased by calcium channel blockers, spironolactone, quinidine and calcium salts.
Potentially Fatal: Electrolyte imbalances such as hypokalaemia and hypomagnesemia (e.g. admin of potassium-losing diuretics, corticosteroids) can increase the risk of cardiac toxicity.
Food Interaction
Absorption delayed.
Lab Interference
May increase conc of urinary 17-hydroxycorticosteroids.
Metildigoxin side effects
Nausea, vomiting, anorexia, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, headache, facial pain, fatigue, weakness, dizziness, drowsiness, disorientation, mental confusion, bad dreams, delirium, acute psychoses, hallucinations, convulsions, blurred vision, colour vision may be affected, gynaecomastia.
Potentially Fatal: Heart failure, supraventricular or ventricular arrhythmias, conduction defects.
Metildigoxin contraindications
