Irritable bowel syndrome & allied conditions eg, chronic irritable colon, spastic constipation, mucous colitis and spastic colitis. Symptomatic treatment of abdominal pain, cramps, nonspecific diarrhoea & flatulence. GI spasm secondary to organic diseases eg, diverticulitis, gastritis, duodenitis, oesophagitis, cholecystitis, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, peptic ulcer, gallbladder disease, hiatus hernia, GIT inflammation.

Uses of Mebeverine (Colovatil) in details

Mebeverine (Colovatil) is used to treat irritable bowel syndrome (disorder of the intestines that leads to cramps in the abdomen, gas, bloating and changes in bowel habits). It is also used to treat other conditions that involve spasm and pain related to small and large bowel.

Mebeverine (Colovatil) description

Each capsule contains Mebeverine (Colovatil) HCl 200 mg.

Mebeverine (Colovatil) also contains the following excipients: Capsule Content (Granules): Magnesium stearate, polyacrylate dispersion 30%, talc, hypromellose, methacrylic acid-ethyl acrylate copolymer (1:1) dispersion 30% and glycerol triacetate. Capsule Shell: Gelatin, titanium dioxide (E171). Printing Ink: Shellac (E904), black iron oxide (E172), propylene glycol, concentrated ammonia solution, potassium hydroxide.

Mebeverine (Colovatil) dosage

Adults: 1 capsule twice daily (1 in the morning and 1 in the evening).

Special Populations: Elderly, Renal and Hepatic Impairment: No posology studies in elderly, renal and/or hepatically impaired patients have been performed. However, no specific risk for elderly, renal and/or hepatically impaired patients could be identified from available post-marketing data. No dosage adjustment is deemed necessary in these patients.

Missed Dose: In case of ≥1 doses missed, continue with the next dose as prescribed; the missed doses are not to be taken in addition to the regular dose.

Administration: The capsules should be swallowed with a sufficient amount of water (at least 100 mL of water).

It should not be chewed because the coating is intended to ensure a prolonged release mechanism.

Mebeverine (Colovatil) interactions

No interaction studies have been performed except with alcohol. In vitro and in vivo studies in animals have demonstrated the absence of any interaction between Mebeverine (Colovatil) and ethanol.

Incompatibilities: Not applicable.

Although adverse effects appear rare, gastrointestinal disturbances, dizziness, headache, insomnia, anorexia and tachycardia have been reported in patients receiving Mebeverine (Colovatil).

Mebeverine (Colovatil) contraindications

Hypersensitivity to Mebeverine (Colovatil) HCl or to any of the excipients of Mebeverine (Colovatil).

Sulpiride (Colovatil) indications

Sulpiride (Colovatil) is indicated for the treatment of schizophrenia.

Sulpiride (Colovatil) description

An analgesic and antipyretic that has been given by mouth and as ear drops. Sulpiride (Colovatil) is often used in testing the effects of other drugs or diseases on drug-metabolizing enzymes in the liver. (From Martindale, The Extra Pharmacopoeia, 30th ed, p29)

Sulpiride (Colovatil) dosage

The dosing regimen of Sulpiride (Colovatil) East West Pharma is individual. For oral administration the starting dose is 20 mg, the single dose is 40-80 mg, the frequency of reception is 2-3 times / day.

For IV jet slowly injection the initial dose is 1 mg; after 2 minutes is administered the same dose again. In the absence of the effect of it is possible repeated injections.

Maximum doses: for oral administration - 320 mg / day; the repeated IV total dose is 10 mg (under the control of blood pressure and ECG).

Sulpiride (Colovatil) interactions

Combination w/ bradycardia-inducing medications (e.g. β-blockers, some Ca channel blockers) or medications which induce electrolyte imbalance (e.g. hypokalaemic diuretics, stimulant laxatives, IV amphotericin B, glucocorticoids, tetracosactides) may induce torsades de pointes or prolong the QT interval. Enhanced postural hypotension if used w/ other antihypertensive drugs. Concurrent use w/ other CNS depressants may cause increased CNS depression. Co-admin w/ antacids or sucralfate may decrease Sulpiride (Colovatil) absorption. Concurrent use w/ lithium increases the risk of extrapyramidal side effects. May reduce effectiveness of ropinorole.

Potentially Fatal: Reciprocal antagonism of effects between levodopa and neuroleptics.

Sulpiride (Colovatil) side effects

CNS and peripheral nervous system: fatigue, weakness, dizziness, headache, drowsiness or insomnia, vivid dreams, depression, anxiety, confusion, hallucinations, tremors, nervousness, anxiety.

Sensory organs: a decrease in the secretion of tear fluid (dryness and soreness of the eyes).

Cardiovascular system: sinus bradycardia, AV block (up to the full development of cross-blockade and cardiac arrest), arrhythmia, development (worsening) of chronic heart failure, decreased blood pressure, orthostatic hypotension, manifestation of angiospasm (increased peripheral circulatory disorders, cold lower extremities, Raynaud's syndrome), pain in the chest.

Digestive system: nausea, vomiting, epigastric discomfort, constipation or diarrhea, liver problems (dark urine, yellow skin or sclera, cholestasis), changes in taste, elevated liver enzymes, lactate dehydrogenase.

Respiratory system: nasal congestion, bronchospasm.

Endocrine: changes in blood glucose (hypo- or hyperglycemia).

hematopoietic system: thrombocytopenia (unusual bleeding and hemorrhage), leukopenia.

Dermatological reactions: increased sweating, psoriasis such as skin reactions, exacerbation of psoriasis symptoms.

Allergic reactions: itching, skin rash, urticaria.

Other: back pain, arthralgia, reduced potency, withdrawal symptoms (increasing stenocardia attacks, myocardial infarction, increased blood pressure).

Sulpiride (Colovatil) contraindications

AV-block II and III degree, sinoatrial block, bradycardia (heart rate is less than 55 beats / min), SSS, hypotension (systolic blood pressure is less than 90 mm Hg, especially in myocardial infarction), chronic heart failure IIB-III stages, acute heart failure, cardiogenic shock, hypersensitivity to propranolol.
